When Indonesian marine tradition becomes superyacht experience for modern explorers.

In Raja Ampat, one of the most spectacular marine ecosystems on the planet, luxury is not defined by high-tech materials or futuristic design. Here, the real experience begins on the deck of a phinisi — a traditional hand-built wooden sailboat that transforms sailing into a return to its essence, reinterpreted for the 21st century.

Paradise of marine biodiversity

With over 1,500 islands and one of the richest marine ecosystems in the world, Raja Ampat is an almost mythical destination for divers and explorers. In a single dive, hundreds of species of fish can be observed, and the intact reefs create a continuous natural spectacle. In this context, the way you choose to explore becomes part of the experience.

Raja Ampat is not without its challenges. Plastic pollution and the exploitation of natural resources, such as nickel, have put pressure on the ecosystem. Local operators work with communities for education and conservation — a critical effort to protect this paradise.

Phinisi: ships built from memory and tradition

Originating in Sulawesi, phinisi are built by hand, often without technical blueprints and without the use of metal nails. Made of ironwood — an extremely dense wood — these ships have been used for centuries for trade in Southeast Asia. Today, they are reinterpreted as luxury exploration platforms.

A key detail: Indonesian law only allows locally registered vessels to operate charters. Thus, phinisis are not only an aesthetic choice, but also a practical one.

Lamima: redefining the concept of phinisi

In this category, Lamima occupies a special place. It is the largest and most sophisticated phinisi ever built and the only RINA certified — a rare standard in this category.

The interior combines teakwood, natural textiles and contemporary design, keeping the wooden structures visible, as a tribute to tradition.

The upper deck becomes the center of life on board. In the morning it hosts yoga sessions, at sunset it becomes a dining space, and at night it turns into a place to socialize under the tropical sky.

The atmosphere is relaxed, far from the classic formalism of European superyachts — more about connection than etiquette.

Experiences beyond sailing

Aboard a phinisi like Lamima, the experience goes beyond sailing:

  • Diving Marine Safaris
  • E-foiling and water sports
  • Picnics on isolated islands
  • Interactions with local communities

All at a pace that favors authentic exploration.

A different kind of luxury

If in the Mediterranean the concept of “quiet luxury” dominates, in Indonesia luxury is experiential. On Lamima, an island can become the scene for an impromptu party, and a simple detail — such as a makeshift ice bath — can replace sophisticated installations.

It is a luxury that does not impress with its opulence, but with its authenticity.

Exploration for a new generation

Through partnerships with operators such as EYOS Expeditions, the experience is taken even further: from cultural expeditions in Papua New Guinea to the presence of renowned experts or videographers on board.

At around $200,000 a week, the experience remains exclusive, but compared to other premium destinations, it offers a different value — one based on authenticity and access to rare places.

Tradition as the future of luxury

Modern phinisi prove that the future of luxury is not necessarily high-tech.

Sometimes, the most memorable experiences arise from the encounter between tradition, nature and discreetly integrated technology.

And Lamima is proof that a ship built according to centuries-old methods can become one of the most fascinating expressions of contemporary luxury.
